Spring is just around the corner! Flowers begin to blossom, birds come out to sing - and your nose starts to run.
As temperatures rise, pollen and people start moving around more than usual. This makes your allergies kick back in, just like they did a year ago. And, believe it or not, there are countless allergy-causing bombs right in your home. Don't worry! You can defuse the situation if you clean up the house. Yes! Cleaning will help you - and here are the top five ways cleaning will help with allergies. 1. Pay attention to your bathroom Why are we talking about the bathroom? Shouldn't we be talking about blinds, curtains, rugs, and other allergy-prone places? Here's the thing: your bathroom is full of water. And, if you don't keep all that moisture in check, mold will grow overnight. Mold, alongside dust, is one of the biggest allergy triggers there are. If you spot mold, scrub it away immediately! 2. Vacuum every other day A vacuum is your go-to ally in the allergy battle. Sure, you can use a broom - but that'll end up being more trouble than it's worth. Make sure your vacuum has a HEPA filter, though. That filter is fundamental and will be the one thing that deals with allergens the right way. You should vacuum one or two days per week; three, if you're in a tough spot allergy-wise. 3. Weekly dusting done right You can probably guess how important dusting is if you suffer from allergies - but are you doing it right? Using a duster will only spread bad things around, leaving you worse than before when you finish. What you need is a microfiber cloth. When you dust using a microfiber cloth, you'll realize how different things are. Instead of moving the dust around, the particles will attach to the cloth. It's ten times better than any duster! 4. Swap air filters every month Every person prone to allergies knows it's better to close the windows and let the AC take care of the airflow. Simply put, that little machine is a life-saver. It can filter the air coming in, making sure little to no allergens break into your house. Unfortunately, air filters do not last for a long time, especially if you're constantly using the AC. That's why you should change them, at least once every 30 to 60 days. 5. Consider taking care of your rug - forever While rugs are a nice touch - they are also the number one enemy of people who have severe allergies. Sure, the rug ties the room together, but is it worth the hassle? You're accumulating more dust and allergens down there than anywhere else in the house! If you decide to keep your rug, make sure you take good care of it regularly. Let a professional handle it - or you'll trigger your allergies like never before. Let Us Help! As summer comes to an end, temperatures drop, leaves fall from the trees - and the air gets dryer than before. Not to worry! You have your humidifier clean and ready to go, right?
If you haven't cleaned and disinfected your humidifier in a while, this is the perfect time of the year to do it. And here's an easy way to do so! Why clean the humidifier?
The items you'll need for the job
How to clean and disinfect a humidifierCleaning it:1. Lights out, loads offFirst things first, turn off your humidifier. Then, unplug it. Finally, disassemble it. Easy, right? 2. Mix vinegar with water and fill the tankNow comes the tricky part: mix one cup of vinegar with one cup of water, then pour it into the tank. Move the tank around; that way, the vinegar will get everywhere. 3. Put the tank in the base and let it sit there for a whilePlace the tank on its base and let it sit there for a good 20 minutes. In the meantime, you can figure out whether you'll use an old toothbrush next - or, if one of your roommates thinks a humidifier is unnecessary, you can use their toothbrush. Be advised that act of aggression will start a prank war. 4. Remove the vinegar and scrub awayPour the vinegar out of both the tank and base. Then, using a toothbrush, scrub away. Remember to be gentle but firm when you do. If the toothbrush is too big for certain parts, use a wet cloth dipped in vinegar to finish the job. 5. Rinse but don't reassemble yetUse water to rinse your humidifier. After that, let it air dry for a while. Now you can reassemble it (and use it), or you can disinfect it if you want to do a more thorough job. Disinfecting it:1. Mix water and bleachPour one teaspoon of bleach into one gallon of water. It might seem like too little bleach - but it will get the job done. 2. Pour the water and bleach mix inside the tankBe careful not to spill when you do. And, as you did before, swish the tank around so the mix gets everywhere. 3. Put the tank on the base againThen, let it sit for another 20 minutes. Don't try to come up with ways to prank your roommates using bleach, that's too dangerous. 4. Empty the tank, rinse, and wipe itPour the bleach mix out of the tank, rinse thoroughly using water (until you can no longer smell bleach), and then dry it using a piece of cloth. 5. Reassemble and enjoyPut everything back together - and take a deep breath, the air feels better already! As our lives grow busier, it seems like we have less time to choose our cleaning products with care. Companies have increasingly added harsh chemicals and compounds to their cleaning products in order to reduce the amount of time it takes to clean. Thankfully, it’s easier than ever to select green cleaning products that help reduce your impact on the environment.
Additionally, green products clean just as well as those filled with harsh chemicals. A wide variety of green cleaners are available to clean everything from your bathroom to your dining room table. Read on to discover the benefits of switching to environmentally-friendly cleaners! Help The Environment Using green products helps reduce your impact on the environment. When you spray chemical cleaners with harsh man-made compounds, you release harmful chemicals into the air. Moreover, the majority of cleaning products end up in our water system in one way or another. Cleaning products made from biodegradable and non-toxic ingredients help lower the amount of damage done to the environment. When combined with other environmentally-conscious decisions, switching to green cleaners means that you are doing your part to help keep our planet clean. Safeguard Your Health Harsh chemicals such as bleach can be dangerous when mixed with other cleaning products. Even disregarding these reactions, just the harsh chemical smell can cause children and small pets to face health issues. Chemical poisoning is a real issue that affects thousands of families each year. By using homemade green cleaners or those with all active and inactive ingredients labeled, you can make a smart choice for you and your family’s health. Increase Your Air Quality Chemical smells not only permeate throughout your entire home when you clean with traditional cleaners, but they lower the air quality as well. Nearly everyone has one harsh cleaner smell that they can’t stand, like the stench of bleach or glass cleaner. One major advantage of green cleaning products is that they are just as powerful without the overpowering smells. Many popular homemade green cleaners include essential oils that can make your home smell fantastic while you clean. Even when ingredients have a naturally unpleasant smell, such as vinegar, homemade cleaner recipes call for them to be diluted into water. These smells will not linger in your kitchen or bathroom the same way a chemically “lemon” scent does. Green Cleaning Is Frugal Even if you are not creating your own homemade green cleaners, the price of many name brand green cleaning products has dropped over the years. As green cleaning becomes even more popular, expect to see deals and sales for your favorite cleaners, especially during the spring. However, the most frugal choice is always making your own green cleaner. There are a wide variety of ways you can make your own cleaner, but make sure you understand how each ingredient will interact with each other. Several common components of homemade green cleaner include:
Peace of Mind A majority of green cleaning brands make it a point of pride to list all the ingredients in their cleaning products right on the bottle. This allows you to do your own research with ingredients you are unfamiliar with. Many traditional cleaning products go to great lengths to hide their exact chemical formula. With green cleaning products, you will know exactly what is in each cleaner and be able to better determine which cleaners would be right for your family. This is especially true when you make your own cleaner at home - you are in control of every chemical and ingredient that goes into your cleaner! An expert cleaner will perform a routine clean to your needs and preferences, providing excellent services on a schedule that suits you. Therefore, house cleaning can soak up a lot of time that could be spent doing more enjoyable things. Investing your money on competent house cleaners will play a significant part in boosting your productivity. Whether you need more time to focus on work or you would prefer to play outside with your children, rather than mop the floors, hiring a team to come into your home is a no brainer. Having someone else tidying up your living spaces allows you to use your time doing more of what you love. 2. Reduce StressEffective home cleaning can be a stressful task, especially if you are easily overwhelmed by the daunting task. Getting your home to a comfortable level of clean involves several practices, such as surface dusting, floor mopping, vacuuming, making beds, cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, cleaning your carpets and rugs, cleaning appliances, etc. These practices are time-consuming, especially if you are cleaning alone. Stressing out over getting your house looking the way that you want is not ideal. If you have concerns about what cleaners and detergents are being used in your home, speak with your cleaning team. 5. Superior TechnologyYou may not equate cleaning with technology, but they do have a relationship that will have an impact on your home. A pro cleaner might use high-tech equipment to enhance efficiency and minimize the workload.
